Seattle Angel Conference VIII- 63 applicants, 7 finalists, 2 winners and $200,000 dollars invested
And the winner is…Two startups! On November 18th at Impact Hub Seattle, both Camp Native and Tenacity Health each received a ceremonial large stage check for $100,000 dollars.
Over the last four years, Seattle Angel Conference has vetted more than 500 companies and worked with over 150 new Angel Investors. 17 companies have now either won a conference investment or received a side investment from participating members.
Nearly 2 million dollars has been invested so far in angel companies. Several of those startups have gone on to raise additional funds from other investment groups.
The conference is the final step in a 12 week process. 7 of the 63 companies successfully navigated the review and presentation process to make the finals:
- Slope - Make it easy for marketing and creative teams to work together with simple collaboration and workflow. (@GoSlope)
- Tenacity Health - Improving Staff retention for call centers via peer accountability (@tenacityhealth)
The Keynote Speaker was Josh Maher, author of “Startup Wealth”. In his talk, Josh shared some of the data about the Seattle Venture process, showing that there was substantial growth over the last decade in new Angel Investment into the community.
The Capstone Speaker was Kartik Ram from Fashion Fund. Kartik discussed the upcoming consequences to the new equity crowdfunding platforms, which will dramatically shift the conversation for how companies raise funds.
The Seattle Angel Conference uses the book “Angel Investing” By David Rose as an initial guideline for engaging in Angel Investing. It provides workshops and mentoring for both Angel Investors and for startup entrepreneurs to learn more about how to be effective and successful with Angel Investing.
